Methodology

This card ranks banks whose nonperforming-loan ratio for a specific CRE or 1-4 family residential category rose at least 0.5 percentage points (0.005) quarter-over-quarter, and surfaces the top 50 by that rise. For banks (FDIC-insured): the per-category nonperforming ratio used for ranking comes from FDIC BankFind financial data (the NCRER / NCCOMRER / NCRECONR / NCREMULR / NCRENRER / NCRERESR families). The supporting dollar columns (loan balance, nonperforming volume) come from FFIEC Call Report Schedule RC-N, adding up the Call Report lines behind each BankFind category: CRE — commercial ← RC-N 1.c.(2)(a) RCONC237/RCONC229 + 1.c.(2)(b) RCONC239/RCONC230; CRE — construction ← RC-N 1.a.(1) RCONF174/RCONF176 + 1.a.(2) RCONF175/RCONF177; CRE — multifamily ← RC-N 1.d RCON3500/RCON3501; 1-4 family residential ← RC-N 1.c.(1) RCON5399/RCON5400 + 1.e.(1) RCONF180/RCONF182 + 1.e.(2) RCONF181/RCONF183. CRE — non-residential has no Call Report lines of its own (its non-owner-occupied loans are already counted under CRE — commercial), so its dollar columns are left blank. Source note: the ranking uses the BankFind ratio; the dollar columns come straight from the bank's filing in the FFIEC Central Data Repository (CDR). When a bank's CDR filing isn't available for the quarter, it shows the ratio only, and its detail page notes that it is using BankFind data. Methodology updated 2026-03-31: the per-category dollar columns now come directly from FFIEC CDR Schedule RC-N. Earlier quarters showed only the BankFind nonperforming ratio, without dollar amounts.
